January 2010
Brandon Medical has won the “Best LED Lighting Application Award” at the European Electronics Industry Awards for the HD-LED medical lighting system. The award was presented jointly to Sagentia and Brandon Medical, the system’s co-developers.

HD-LED was selected after it was shown how the technology can be used to improve surgeons’ view during operations, for its efficiency and cost-effectiveness, high performance, design and flexibility. Fully adjustable, HD-LED uses a novel colour transformation technology to produce very high quality light from LEDs, while, because the lights use solid-state, they generate virtually no heat, producing only visible light (therefore no UV or infrared). HD-LED lights use up to 70% less energy than conventional medical lighting; the range has “consistently exceeded” the standards laid down in environmental legislation. The contribution to CO2 reduction is approximately 1.25 tonnes per year per operating theatre. The latest medical light to feature HD-LED is Brandon Medical’s Quasar operating theatre light, said to offer the highest quality illumination in its field. Brandon was recently awarded a £50,000 prize for developing HD-LED, Quasar and its Symposia medical audio-visual systems as outright “winner of winners” at the British Chambers of Commerce’s Chamber Awards 2009, where Quasar also received the “Innovation Through Technology” award. David Frost, British Chambers of Commerce director-general, commented: “Brandon is a shining example of what a good British business can do in a global market. The company has used its intelligence and experience to develop a set of unique products that is helping the medical profession improve in a way that really could save lives.” Brandon Medical Company Ltd Holme Well Road Leeds LS10 4TQ Tel: 0113 277 7393 Fax: 0113 272 8844 Email: enquiries@brandon-medical.com www.brandon-medical.com
