A Vancouver architect describes the highly positive impact of a new emergency department at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in British Columbia in Canada.
In an article first published in Canadian Healthcare Facilities, the magazine of the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society (CHES), Vancouver architect, Ray Pradinuk, who leads healthcare research and innovation for Stantec, describes the highly positive impact of a new emergency department at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in British Columbia.
Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s new emergency department has transformed the way staff and patients experience urgent care. The 35,000 ft2 facility has been designed for functionality, indoor environmental quality, and sustainability. The ambulance and walk-in entries, as well as all clinical functions, are on the second floor, matching existing grade and the hospital’s main level. The new addition is set apart from the original structure to preserve existing windows and provide daylight to staff work areas along the inside of the L-shaped wing on both floors.
