Looking deeper into infection control

Download PDF version of article

Pathogenic bacteria evolve fast. Infection control specialists know that winning the fight against them demands microscopic attention to detail.

So says Armitage Shanks, which explains that this is why the Markwik 21+ and Contour 21+ hospital washroom ranges have been ‘designed from the inside out’, and include ‘multiple features to inhibit bacteria growth and make disinfecting and maintenance easier’.

The company said: “Take the Markwik 21+ tap range. The body has been completely redesigned, with a simpler structure with small-bore antimicrobial pipes that increases the force of water causing turbulence to help stop biofilm build up. The thermostatic cartridge is now a one-piece design, with fewer polymers and more metal to deter bugs, and when it comes to maintenance, everything can be tested and maintained from the front of the panel, with a demountable tap that can be stripped down and disinfected.

“But water delivery is not just about the fittings. Equally important is the design of the basin that is used with Markwik 21+. The Contour 21+ clinical basin has three new features that make it more hygienic – a fin moulded into the ceramic cleverly reduces splashing by over 90%, a hightech glaze that makes it easier for water to drain off, with an ionic silver antimicrobial additive immobilising bacteria, and a new drainage system that improves the flow of waste away from the basin. The result is an integrated water delivery system for hospitals that is our most advanced solution yet.”
