Brandon Medical says its Mediclean Complanate Ultra Clean Ventilation (UCV) system ‘provides unique benefits to hospital designers, surgical staff, and estates and maintenance engineers’.
The company said: “Mediclean UCV systems are complanate and screenless, and can thus fit completely flush to suspended ceilings without the need for air deflectors or side screens. This allows designers to plan more ergonomic equipment layouts, and makes it much easier for staff to position equipment during surgery without obstruction or collision.”
The ‘unique system’ uses a distinctive air curtain technology to separate the ultraclean air from the surrounding ‘dirty air’, and to control entrainment.
Brandon said: “Mediclean also utilises continuous particle monitoring, which works by accurately sampling airborne particles present during surgery and displaying the results as visual signals. When particles are detected, the Mediclean CPM system automatically increases the air flow from the UCV to quickly flush the contamination away from the safety-critical area.”
Mediclean is reportedly the world’s first system to use CPM visual signs to make any contamination of the clean air visible, allowing staff to ‘see’ how clean the air is during surgery. This enables them to adapt their working practices to protect patients and reduce their risk of infection.
The Mediclean system has been installed at the Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery near Maidstone, an existing Brandon customer who have also benefited from the company’s operating theatre lights and medical gas pendants. Brandon Medical’s Paul Grainger said of the KIMS installation: “We have provided a range of theatre equipment to the hospital, which functions in harmony without clashing or restricting movement, and helps deliver a modern, functional, and open workspace.”
