Health Technical Memorandum 04-01, Safe water in healthcare premises Part A: Design, installation and commissioning, recognises that Pseudomonas aeruginosa may be transferred to and from mixers and taps by patients and staff in healthcare facilities.
To reduce this risk of contamination, the HTM reinforces the need for good hygiene routines, and for appropriate training for cleaning taps and TMVs. Delabie’s Securitherm mixer is specifically designed to facilitate cleaning. It is supplied with two removable BIOCLIP spouts, ensuring continuity of use while one spout is being cleaned. The spout can also be replaced by a BIOFIL filtration spout if contamination occurs, securing the water quality during remedial action.
The Securitherm mixer’s interior is designed to minimise water volume and reduce contamination risk. Water flows through narrow tubes from the inlets to the cartridge, increasing the water velocity, while less water is in contact with the interior surface, minimising biofilm development. Moreover, all the internal parts are completely smooth, providing fewer niches for bacteria to adhere.
Spouts, and specifically flow straighteners, provide ideal environments for bacterial development. Delabie’s Securitherm mixer features a BIOSAFE spout outlet. It has no internal partitions, and its smooth internal surface provides nowhere for scale to adhere. The BIOSAFE outlet has a laminar flow, and with the mixer’s flow rate restricted to 7 l / min, the risk of retrocontamination through splashing is reduced.
Designed to reduce nosocomial infection risk, the Securitherm mixer is also TMV3approved. The mixer opens and closes with cold, potable water, while a maximum temperature limiter and full anti-scalding failsafe reduce scalding risk.
