Aermec introduces ‘next generation’ of active chilled beams

With hospitals by their nature energy-intensive, Aermec claims says its new EHT active chilled beam offers ‘clean healthy air, acoustic comfort, and reduced energy consumption, while respecting the environment’.

“Active chilled beams can provide a constant air supply, and allow air paths to be tightly controlled, whereas conventional air-conditioning may involve air recycling and pressure changes,” Aermec explained. “By using 100% outside air, the EHT can prevent recycling of air, and provide individual room temperature control.”

Aermec’s ‘next generation’ EHT hybrid induction terminal combines cooling, heating, fresh air, ventilation-only, and air distribution, in one compact device for rooms with a ceiling height of up to four metres. The company said: “With a need to focus on moving towards the government’s Net Zero targets, EHT active chilled beams offer high performance, good air quality, and acoustic comfort, with reductions in energy consumption.”

‘A fundamental feature’ of the EHT is its aesthetic appeal, making it ‘an ideal solution for a diversity of interiors’. It added: “The innovative design of the EHT’s nozzles sets it apart. Developed using CFD analyses, their moulded production quality guarantees an induction ratio up to six, (as per independent testing by the University of Aachen in Belgium). With no moving parts, the EHT offers unprecedented acoustic comfort.”

‘Environmental consideration’ was also a key part of the design process, with parallel heat exchangers maximising efficiencies, and the unit ‘fully exploiting the Coanda effect’. Aermec added: “Consideration was given to the optimisation of the finned coils, obtaining the maximum heat exchange coefficient with reduced pressure drops on the air and water side, for the highest comfort levels, while respecting the ecosystem. Any dehumidification is addressed by the AHU, resulting in no condensate inside the EHT beam, which  eliminates the risk of mould, bacteria, and other organisms potentially harmful to health.”

Aermec says ‘air of the highest quality’ is injected into the space – the air-handling unit filters, treats, and dehumidifies, fresh air before sending it into the EHT. The option to select the right configuration of the nozzles ensures the right fresh air flow rate can be guaranteed. Installation is ‘quick and simple’, while to facilitate maintenance, components are accessed from below, by opening the suction grille.
