Significant expansion and upgrade at London’s major cancer treatment facility

Turner & Townsend been appointed to lead a significant expansion and upgrade facilities at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust Chelsea estate on London’s Fulham Road.

Known as The Royal Marsden Chelsea Development, the expansion will deliver a newly integrated environment for research, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for those living with, in remission of, and beyond cancer.

Alongside the full project design team, including lead architect Stanton Williams, engineers, Hoare Lea, structural engineers, Ramboll, and cost consultant, Gardiner & Theobald, Turner & Townsend will deliver principal designer, construction logistics, and programme scheduler services in addition to its lead role as project manager.

Sunil Vyas, the Trust’s director of Projects & Estates, said: “The appointment of the design team for the expansion and upgrade of our cancer research and treatment facility marks a major step forward in the hospital’s plans to continue to be at the forefront of cutting-edge research advances to patients. We need to grow and modernise to meet the increasing demand for our services, and still have the space to conduct our practice-changing research while improving every part of the cancer experience for patients across the UK and around the world.
