Bespoke endoscopy facility for Poole Hospital

Working closely with the clinical team at Poole Hospital, University Hospital Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, and Premier Modular, P+HS Architects has designed a bespoke new endoscopy facility to expand elective diagnostic services and help meet the growing demand for high-quality endoscopy care in Dorset.

The new unit will feature six endoscopy rooms, all with the necessary patient support spaces, as well spaces for staff training and seminars. The lower ground floor will also provide a dedicated decontamination suite. P+HS said: “The design prioritises both therapeutic and practical needs, with carefully planned clinical patient flows and a welcoming, human-scaled environment. Public consultations – including feedback from neighbours and special interest groups, shaped the building’s layout and design, creating a calming space that connects users with nature through framed views of the surrounding landscape.”

Offsite modular construction methods are being utilised to minimise disruption to hospital operations during the build, helping to maintain high standards of patient care throughout the construction phase.

Managing director, James Almond said: “We’re incredibly proud to be working with UHD and Premier Modular on this important expansion of endoscopy services at Poole. We’ve brought together complex clinical requirements in a building that still feels warm, human, and therapeutic. Our experience in Modern Methods of Construction has enabled us to deliver a bespoke modular design that responds to the site’s challenges and not only works technically, but fits the needs of the people who will use it. It’s fantastic to see the first modules now arriving on site and the building beginning to take shape.” We’re excited to see the new facility take form over the next year.”
