Fume hoods for lab environments

Hemco has launched UniFlow Dual Entry Fume Hoods to provide front-and-rear access for laboratory environments requiring controlled airflow and safe fume containment.

The hoods are available in widths of 48, 60, 72 and 96 inches, with depth options of 30, 36 and 48 inches. They use a constant-volume air bypass design and are constructed from chemical-resistant, flame-retardant, non-metallic composite resin. The fume chamber is moulded as a single seamless piece, with the exterior laminated to the liner without the use of screws, bolts, rivets or other metallic fixings.

Standard features include horizontal sliding glass sash doors, a vapour-proof light and switch, a ceiling baffle and a removable front access panel. Optional accessories include plumbing and electrical services, airflow monitoring, side windows, clear acrylic baffles, work surfaces, cabinets or tables, and exhaust systems.

The dual-entry design allows use from either side, such as demonstrations conducted by instructors while students observe from the opposite side, or the separation of operational use and maintenance access. Only one side of the hood can be opened at any time to maintain airflow performance and safety.

The hoods are typically installed on laboratory furniture islands or within walls between adjacent rooms, where they are intended to isolate, contain and exhaust fumes in line with airflow requirements.
