Engineering & Estates Management (EEM) will be introduced as a new NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS) specialism for 2027.
This innovative programme is designed for graduates who want to combine their engineering expertise with leadership development while making a real difference to patient care across the NHS. Trainees will gain experience in operational estates management, engineering compliance, infrastructure projects, sustainability initiatives, and healthcare engineering systems that keep NHS services running safely and effectively.
The NHS manages one of the largest and most complex estates portfolios in Europe, and this new pathway has been created to develop the next generation of engineering and estates leaders who will help shape, maintain, and transform healthcare infrastructure for the future.
Participants will also work towards a Masters in Building Services Engineering (MEng) and gain valuable leadership development through the renowned Mary Seacole programme, creating a unique blend of technical and management skills.
