Rada’s Safetherm ‘a cool touch for safer hospitals’

Safetherm is a new thermostatic mixer tap for healthcare from Rada that the company says “sets new standards in safety, ease-of-use, and serviceability”. It is the first mixer tap to feature “Insutech+” technology, which reduces surface temperatures on the hot inlet to a safe level, “answering concerns about contact burns among children and the elderly grabbing the body of a hot tap”.

The sequential, single-lever, thermostatic mixer tap is easy to operate under hospital protocols, with a maximum 120° travel. It is designed to be simple to use using the elbow to prevent cross-infection, while delivering a full range of water temperatures in a controlled manner. Safetherm is also compliant with HTM64 guidelines, and meets the D08 performance standard – as required by legislation in NHS hospitals. The design eliminates unnecessary internal spaces and internal machining detail that could house standing water when a tap is not in use, while the integral thermostat is said to produce excellent performance, managing temperature at point of delivery so that the user does not risk scalding, while simultaneously allowing higher “upstream” temperatures to reduce Legionella risk. Robust, and reportedly easy to install and maintain, the Safetherm is available in panel or deck mounting configurations, while serviceable parts are accessible without removing the tap, for reduced downtime. The tap is also simple to clean effectively – “because its entire surface is continuous and smooth”.
