A sound answer to excess noise in hospitals

The debate around healthcare funding is very topical, but how could hospital managers better spend their NHS estate money to benefit patients and staff? Andrea Harman, Concept developer for Healthcare at Ecophon, discusses the value – in terms of tangible patient benefits – of investing in acoustic ceiling solutions.

Following last year’s General Election, the quality of British healthcare facilities now ranks as one of the nation’s most discussed issues. Each of the country’s major parties ran campaigns around raising NHS and healthcare funding. For product suppliers, this moment of crossparty consensus presents an opportunity to pitch more innovative solutions that can improve performance. One of the most notable solutions is hygienic acoustic ceilings. These engineered solutions help to improve wellness and reduce stress. Once overlooked, engineered ceiling solutions now provide hospital managers with tangible benefits that can improve recovery times and reduce medication needs. However, there is still some confusion over how these products work, and why they are so important in modern healthcare environments.

Top of the agenda

Unfortunately, the healthcare sector finds itself in the midst of an extremely challenging period. A toxic combination of record demand and reduced budgets has pushed facilities to their absolute limits. It is a serious concern, which has not gone unnoticed by the broader public. Moving into the New Year, the quality of healthcare facilities, and specifically those run by the NHS, has emerged as a highly salient issue. According to YouGov, around 44 per cent of UK citizens now believe that improving healthcare is the most important issue facing the country. For context, this makes it second only to ‘Brexit’ in terms of perceived importance.
