Independent pharmacy buying group Edinpharm has partnered with same-day delivery specialist Gophr to help community pharmacies maintain continuity of care during periods of peak demand.
The partnership gives Edinpharm members in Edinburgh and across the UK access to a pharmacy-ready delivery service supporting both scheduled and on-demand requirements. Pharmacies can draw on Gophr when deliveries exceed internal capacity, whether due to staffing pressures, rising prescription volumes or the need for urgent doorstep drops.
Designed to support increasing workloads and more complex prescriptions, the service covers temperature-sensitive items and controlled medications. Gophr’s trained couriers and real-time tracking tools are intended to ensure safe, compliant and transparent deliveries to patients’ homes.
Edinpharm says the agreement reflects its focus on practical, trusted solutions that improve patient access, particularly for those who rely on home delivery services. Success will be measured by member uptake and day-to-day usage across the network.
Richard Stephenson, managing director at Edinpharm, said home delivery had become “a lifeline for many patients”, adding that the partnership provides pharmacies with a dependable option when demand outpaces capacity, without adding pressure to in-house teams.
Claire Mullarkey, National Business Development Manager at Gophr, said community pharmacies were under increasing strain due to NHS staff shortages, and that specialist delivery support could help ensure medicines are handled appropriately, from confidentiality at the doorstep to safe transit.
