Community Health Partnerships invest £2.2m in Hull’s Calvert Centre

Patients in Hull will benefit from improved access to primary care following a £2.2m investment from CHP to transform underused space at The Calvert Centre.

The project will enable Kingston Health Practice to relocate into the health centre, expanding from 8 to 10 clinical rooms and delivering over 13,000 additional primary care appointments each year. The move supports the shift towards preventative, community-based care in line with the NHS 10-Year Plan.

Community Health Partnerships (CHP), as NHS infrastructure experts, are working in partnership with Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), Kingston Health Practice, Citycare (LIFTCo), Sewell Construction, and Sewell Advisory (project management) to support the project, which has reached financial close and is now in the next phase of delivery, with the remodelling expected to be finished in the autumn.

The remodelling of the Calvert Centre represents a significant step forward in enhancing primary care provision in Hull. This project is a key part of CHP’s ongoing work to improve LIFT healthcare facilities across the country, and underscores CHP’s commitment to investing in community health infrastructure, supporting the delivery of high-quality primary care services.

Dr Jane Fitch, regional director for North East at Community Health Partnerships, said: “CHP’s £2.2m investment in The Calvert Centre shows how we have worked with NHS partners to make better use of the LIFT estate while improving access to care for patients. By transforming under used space into modern clinical facilities for Kingston Health, we’re increasing capacity and supporting more integrated, community-based services in line with the NHS 10-year plan. This project demonstrates our commitment to delivering real benefits for communities in Hull.”

Toni Yel, assistant director of community integration & transformation for Hull Place, said: “This is an important investment for local people in Hull, helping to expand access to GP services and create a more modern, welcoming environment for patients and staff. Increasing the number of clinical rooms will allow the practice to offer more appointments and support earlier, preventative care. It’s a great example of partners working together to strengthen services in communities with high health need and ensure people can access the care they need, closer to where they live.”

Tim Wigglesworth, chief executive, Citycare (LIFTCo), added: “This transformation of the Calvert Centre will enable the health centre to provide more clinical rooms, providing thousands of extra medical appointments and helping patients get care and advice quicker. The better utilisation of the health centre is welcome and represents a great example of the work we undertake jointly with system partners to deliver improved health outcomes for the city.”
