Escalation ward’s dual role

A new 22-bedded infection control escalation ward, designed by LSI Architects, has opened at James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, Norfolk, as part of the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s ongoing campaign to improve the patient environment and enhance infection prevention and control.

The eight single en suite side-rooms and spacious two and four-bedded bays are designed to be easy to clean, and to withstand rigorous daily deep cleaning. Incorporated are two full isolation rooms incorporating pressurised entrance lobbies, and six single bed side rooms, also designed to provide isolation. The entire department is finished in hygienic materials, including Corian worktops and Altro Whiterock, an “easily cleanable” specialist wall and door finish, normally only used in clean environments, that “requires virtually no maintenance“.
