Engineering, management and development consultancy, Mott MacDonald has secured two prestigious PFI contracts in the health sector. For Mersey Care NHS Trust the company will help drive the design, implementation and operation of the Trust’s new service model across all its facilities management services. For Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, Mott MacDonald has been appointed to provide project management services from the development of the outline business case through procurement to financial close for a new hospital.

Mersey Care NHS Trust is undertaking a major modernisation project throughout its mental health facilities directorate. This involves a strategic review, design and implementation of management and delivery of support services across the organisation. It is aiming to develop proposals for the redesign of these services to provide all service users, carers and staff with a facilities service model which is appropriate, sustainable and affordable.
The Trust is also starting a £171 million PFI capital investment programme to build five mental health resource centres across Merseyside, providing local communities with improved access to mental health services. Mott MacDonald will be assisting the Trust by providing facilities management advice throughout the procurement process from design to service delivery.
The new Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital will provide general hospital services for the adult population of Central and South Liverpool and specialist services across Merseyside and Cheshire. It will replace existing facilities built in the 1970s which are in need of intensive refurbishment and do not meet new standards expected in health provision. The capital value of the new project is £500 million.
