Leicester pilot proves LED switch’s benefits
As part of its carbon reduction programme – and in a separate project to that reported on on page 58 – Spire Healthcare has recently evaluated the benefits of LED lighting in a pilot project at its Leicester Hospital, which demonstrated energy savings of around 69%.
Automatic testing with remote view
P4 has worked with the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust since 2008 ‘to reduce risk and whole-life cost, ensure emergency lighting complies with BS 5266, and enable delivery of improved care outcomes’.
Major savings expected for Spire
Energy performance ‘solutions provider’, Future Energy Solutions (FES), has completed, on time and on budget, a major two-phase LED lighting installation for Spire Healthcare, which has seen new LED luminaires installed at 38 of the private healthcare provider’s sites.
Accurate illumination, long-life LEDs
Astralite plus is a recently introduced minor surgical and examination light from Brandon Medical which the company says provides ‘higher intensity bright light’, has a light head positionable ‘all the way around the couch’, and offers an LED life of 50,000 hours, ‘equating to over 20 years’ normal use’.
‘Biologic’ light for geriatric ward
‘Human-centric’ LED lighting from Trilux features in a new geriatric ward at the Krankenhaus Maria-Hilf in Brilon, Germany.
Intelligent OR light ‘adjusts to ambient conditions’
With fluctuating light conditions in the operating theatre ‘potentially a serious impediment to the surgeon’, Trumpf Medical’s iLED 7 – claimed to be ‘the world’s first OR surgical light with builtin intelligence’ – features a 3D sensor system that ‘continuously analyses its environment’.
Making shutdowns easier to handle
BOC has launched a new Backfeed Kit for supplying medical oxygen to healthcare facilities while the main pipework infrastructure is being isolated.
True to its original objective
From inception to the present day, MGPS Services says it has remained true to its prime objective – independence from suppliers, installers, and maintainers.
Permeation testing solutions
With the purity of medical gases critical, but with the potential for contamination and foreign gases to permeate in and out of equipment via valves, connectors, pipes, and tubing, Versaperm offers accurate permeation testing thanks to the ‘latest-generation sensors’ now installed on its ‘already proven’ medical permeability measurement equipment.
Terminal units’ anti-bacterial protection
Beacon Medæs has launched ‘the next generation’ of medical gas terminal units.
Experts in medical gas testing
Medical Gas Testing Services (MGTS) offers independent medical gas testing using the ‘team approach’ advocated in HTM 02 with installers, Competent Persons (MGPS), engineers, Authorised Persons (MGPS), and other colleagues.
Security breaches easily handled
When equipping the new Nelson Health Centre in Merton, South West London, the brief for electronic locking system specialist, Salto, was to manage the design and installation of ‘a secure, flexible, and cost-effective access control solution that was simple to use to meet both NHS and end users’ needs’.
‘Smarter’ access control system
Managing any healthcare facility is a juggling act, and where service-users are vulnerable, well-designed fixtures ‘can make a huge difference’ to their safety and dignity.
Quick-to-install digital door locks
Securikey has launched two new models as part of its Keylex digital door lock range – the Keylex 700AR Series for commercial applications, and the Keylex 700M Series for domestic use.
Better visibility of staff and patients
Stanley Security’s AeroScout asset visibility system provides real-time location solutions (RTLS), status, and alerts, delivered via a healthcare facility’s Wi-Fi infrastructure, ‘to improve quality of care and patient and staff safety’.
Staff protection ensured
Selecting an appropriate staff alarm system is a key factor in protecting employees’ security – a task personal alarm and critical communications specialist, Atus Systems, says it has ‘a proven track record’ of achieving.
Video imaging for a ‘virtual walk-around’
A ‘360 degree’ video imaging solution designed for building and facilities management personnel, with the ability to integrate floor plans, architectural drawings, and other documents, has been launched by Arithmetica, an ‘innovator in 360 degree imaging solutions and automated laser scanning data processing software’, based at the famous Shepperton Studios near London.
Growth and expansion for Green Gate
Green Gate Access Systems, which provides solar and mains-powered gates, barriers, and access control systems, throughout the UK, has opened an additional office in Salisbury.
‘Eco-friendly’ high security
A range of electric locking solutions featuring new ‘low energy’ technology, ‘blending high security with eco-friendliness in the same lock’, has been introduced by Abloy.
Door top alarm commended
A door top alarm system, described as ‘pivotal to personal safety strategies in mental healthcare establishments’, has been commended by a hospital Trust for its simplicity and effectiveness.
