Harmony Fire has completed a fast-track, eight-week fire door replacement programme for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
The scheme focused on upgrades at the hospital’s globally renowned National Spinal Injuries Clinic (NSIC) and busy maternity ward. Encompassing three buildings on the 40-acre Stoke Mandeville healthcare campus, Harmony Fire was engaged to deliver a full turnkey fire door replacement programme without any interruption to the hospital’s 24/7 operational status.
Following a comprehensive site survey, a phased delivery programme was developed in close collaboration with the Trust for the replacement of 158 fire doors. Small defined sections across the three buildings were isolated and screened off with a zip-wall plastic sheeting system. Following a full inspection, doors were then signed off and areas handed back to ward teams without any requirement for ward closures throughout the programme.
Compartmentation and fire stopping above each replacement door were reviewed and remediated to deliver a fully compliant and certified compartmentation line from floor to ceiling. The scope also included access control systems, hold-open devices, floor levelling, decoration, and making-good.
Harmony Fire MD Connor Mitchell said: “The success of this highly complex and logistically challenging project can be attributed to outstanding levels of communication and collaboration between all stakeholders, the granularity of the initial surveying exercise and an agile delivery programme designed with inherent flexibility. With an actively engaged and highly motivated team approach, this important life safety programme was ultimately delivered on time and budget because it was shaped by clinical reality, not contractor convenience.”
