Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £54.8m from the government to tackle urgent problems with hospital buildings and facilities.
The investment consists of £49m to improve fire safety, infrastructure, and refurbishment for the ward and theatre areas within Yeovil District Hospital’s tower block, and £5.8m to improve fire safety infrastructure and building improvements at Crewkerne Community Hospital, Broadway Health Park in Bridgwater, and Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
David Shannon, director of strategy and digital development at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It is very important that we update and improve our infrastructure to support the care and services we deliver. This money will support us to improve the infrastructure at buildings that deliver important services to patients in different parts of Somerset.
“Yeovil District Hospital delivers important acute hospital services to people in Yeovil and the surrounding areas and I am particularly pleased with the amount of money we have received to improve the infrastructure in the tower block.
“I am also delighted that we have received investment to improve infrastructure at Crewkerne Community Hospital which provides a range of community and outpatient services; Broadway Health Park in Bridgwater which provides inpatient care for adults with mental health difficulties; and Musgrove Park Hospital provides acute care. We will now begin working up the detail for each site.”
