Feedback from the second phase of consultation on plans for a new St Mary’s Hospital in north west London has been published.
The consultation, which took place over June and July 2026, received 207 survey submissions. Feedback was also gathered through public exhibitions, an online webinar, patient workshops, ward walkarounds, and targeted engagement with patients, staff, local residents, disabled people, and community organisations.
According to Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, 92 per cent of respondents support the vision for the future of the St Mary’s site. The strongest reason for support was the need to replace the ageing and fragmented hospital estate with modern facilities that can improve care and respond to future needs.
The feedback also highlighted a number of clear priorities for the next stage of the plans. This includes ensuring the new hospital is simple to access and navigate, with step-free routes, clear entrances and wayfinding, and convenient drop-off arrangements.
There was strong support for green and quiet spaces as part of the healthcare environment, as well as for celebrating St Mary’s history and its contribution to medical discovery.
Respondents also welcomed wider opportunities around research, life sciences, innovation, jobs, and skills where these deliver clear benefits for patients and local communities.
There were also concerns. Some respondents commented on the height and massing of the emerging proposals, impacts on local residents, traffic and parking, and potential disruption during construction.
The next phase of consultation will launch on 30 September and will provide a further opportunity for patients, staff, local residents, and other groups to consider the developing proposals and give their views.
